Bucharest Harp Festival, 4th Edition: A Landmark Event for Harp and Music Lovers

From July 17 to 19, 2024, the Romanian Harpists Association, in partnership with the National Library of Romania, will organize the fourth edition of the Bucharest Harp Festival. This prestigious event will take place at the National Library of Romania, bringing together artists and music enthusiasts in a celebration of art and culture. The festival is supported by renowned international sponsors: Salvi Harps and Lyon & Healy Harps, whose high-quality and elegant instruments will be showcased and heard throughout the festival.

The festival will begin on July 17 with guests from Italy. Harpist Prof. Marciana Petrila will present “Modern Methods in Harp Pedagogy” alongside the Glissando Ensemble, featuring harpists Letizia Vecchiato, Bianca Maria Cavuotti, Camilla Vittoria Ballan, Francesca Lantarè, Matilde Esposito.

The Gala Opening of the Bucharest Harp Festival will feature recitals on Celtic and concert harps in various chamber music formats, culminating in a performance by the festival’s Harp Ensemble, offering a unique and impressive auditory experience. The harpists and musicians performing at the opening night include (in alphabetical order): Evelina Daiana Andrieș, Maria Bîldea, Ionela Brădean, Emanuela Iulia Calei, Adriana Cazacu, Ileana Chirilă, Alice Hristodor, Rebeca Marin, Roxana Moișanu, Cristina Munteanu, Ioana Nicolescu, Angela Maria Oancea, Marciana Petrila, Ileana Rotaru, Mladen Spasinovici (cello), Alyssa Șipoș, Diana Tănase, Mariana Tudor – Ulianovschi, David Welsh, and Judith Wunderlich.

The festival will offer harp courses for all experience levels, conducted by harpists Claudia Lucia Lamanna (Italy) and Prof. Dr. Maria Bîldea (Romania), workshops dedicated to harp maintenance, and a special exhibition of sheet music from the National Library of Romania’s collection, curated by librarian Raluca Bucinschi. These activities aim to enhance participants’ knowledge and promote this refined instrument.

On July 18 at noon, don’t miss the cultural – educational concert “Young Talents”,  aimed at promoting talented harp students from across the country. This concert is a valuable opportunity for young musicians to showcase their talent and gain experience in front of a large audience. In the evening, we invite you to a wonderful concert by harpist Prof. Dr. Maria Bîldea.

Additionally, we are pleased to host the painting exhibition “Visual Harmonies”, a collection of artworks by students from the “Nicolae Tonitza” High School of Fine Arts, exploring the profound connection between music and the harp, adding color and emotion to our event.

The highlight of the festival will be the Closing Recital on the evening of July 19, performed by our special guest, the renowned harpist Claudia Lucia Lamanna (Italy), winner of the 1st prize at the most recent International Harp Competition held in Israel. 

Her performance promises to delight and inspire the audience with her skill and interpretive sensitivity.
